The administrators and faculty at Alsion Montessori have created a curriculum that acknowledges the great importance of middle school in the growth of your child.
We view the transition of children ages 13to 15 years old from elementary school to middle school as an opportunity to teach students how to lead happy, productive lives. Although young students are experiencing dramatic physical and emotional changes, most are engaged and eager to learn.
Alsion Montessori Middle School helps them with a well-balanced curriculum that encourages positive relationships and inspires self-confidence. By effectively answering the challenges of teaching adolescents, we prepare them for the rigors of high school and the challenges of life in the 21st century.
Why Alsion’s Adolescent Education Works
Alsion Montessori Middle School successfully connects with its middle school students in two ways:
- Learning paths are customized to the individual student. Alsion students have diverse interests. They also learn at different rates. To facilitate differences among individual students, small class sizes are key. In groups of 15 students or fewer, teachers have time to make certain each student understands the material, without being sidetracked by maintaining order. A variety of elective courses that cater to a range of interests are also offered, including competitive math, debate and science teams, psychology, and cooking.
- Education happens inside and outside the classroom. In addition to core courses in English, mathematics, science, history, and foreign languages, students are able to participate in extracurricular activities such as the entertaining “Coffeehouse” production, gardening, various clubs, and our popular biome trips. Each year, students travel on these extended biome trips to particular areas of California to learn about the ecology, social history, geology and economy of the region. Middle school students also join with their high school counterparts in performing charitable activities such as feeding the needy and collecting trash.
